The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and too many other Black people has cast a spotlight on the brutality, and systemic racism that runs rampant throughout this nation and the need for substantive change. The West Medford Community Center (WMCC), a historically African American organization, was built by African American WWII soldiers responding to a community need.
Our history and legacy makes witnessing current events especially difficult. In the spirit of how our founders imagined our community space, we want to reiterate that the WMCC is here to listen and support you.
These types of incidents are not new and there is much work to be done to dismantle systemic racism. We at WMCC, are committed to sharing resources and programming so that we may learn, heal, and take action together.
